Utilities Power Line Technician (Lineman)
$7,512 - $7,889/month

There are several vacancies available in the Electric Field Operations Division of the Public Utilities Department. This recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and will establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies in this classification. This is skilled work of journey level in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems and substations. Work involves the performance of skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical transmissions and distribution systems and substations. Work is performed in close contact with high voltage lines and may be performed under unfavorable weather conditions and involves skill and care to protect the lives of employees and others. This job is also referred to as Powerline Mechanic, Cable Splicer, or High Voltage Line worker, Lineman. Employees in these positions are subject to agency shop requirements.
Education: High school graduation or satisfactory equivalent.
Experience: Applicant must hold a recognized completion certificate from recognized four year program.
Possession of an appropriate, valid class "A" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Possession of a current Journeyman Certification.
One year of experience in the electrical power field as a journey level powerline technician or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in powerline work.
Graduation from high school or satisfactory equivalent, preferably including some courses in electrical work.
Familiarity with California rules GO95, GO128, GO165, Title 8.
